Home EV Charger Installation on the Gold Coast
Bought an EV, or about to? A home charger makes life simple. You park in the garage or driveway, plug in, and the car charges overnight while you sleep. In the morning it is full and ready to go, which easily covers the daily drive to work, the school run, and trips to the shops. For EV charger installation Gold Coast homeowners can rely on, James and his team keep it straightforward and do it right the first time.
Public charging on the Coast is not as handy as it once was. The City of Gold Coast switched off and removed its own fast chargers after years of reliability trouble, and the bays were painted back to normal parking spots. You will still find chargers at some servos and shopping centres, but you cannot count on one being free the moment you need it. A charger at your own place takes that worry off the table.
James Keegan and his team fit home chargers from Coolangatta in the south to Pimpama in the north, and everywhere along the M1 in between.
EV Chargers We Install
Most homes get a Level 2 wall charger. It is the unit that mounts on your wall or a post near where you park. A Level 2 charger is far quicker than a standard powerpoint and much safer for the long hours an EV needs to charge.
We supply and install all the main brands:
Not sure which one is right? James will help you pick. If you have solar and want to charge off it, a Zappi, Fronius Wattpilot or Ocular is a good fit. If you want something simple and reliable, the Tesla Wall Connector is a strong pick, and it charges other Type 2 cars too, not just Teslas. If you like app control and scheduling, the Ohme and Wallbox units do that well.
Tesla Wall Connector Installation on the Gold Coast
The Tesla Wall Connector is one of the most common chargers we fit. The current model works with your Tesla and, set to the right mode, with most other Type 2 electric cars. We supply it, install it, connect it, and show you how to set it up.
Do You Need a 7 kW or Three-Phase EV Charger?
For most Gold Coast homes, a 7 kW single-phase charger is more than enough. It can add roughly 35ā45 kilometres of range per hour, making it ideal for overnight charging. Most drivers donāt use their entire battery in a day, so plugging in overnight means your car is ready to go every morning.
A three-phase charger can provide up to 22 kW, but the actual charging speed depends on what your vehicleās onboard charger can accept. Three-phase charging may be worthwhile if you drive high kilometres every day, charge multiple EVs, or already have three-phase power at your property.
Upgrading to three-phase solely for faster EV charging isnāt always necessary. James will assess your existing electrical supply, switchboard, vehicle and charging requirements, then recommend the most practical, cost-effective and compliant solution for your home

What Are the Rules for Installing an EV Charger in Queensland?
An EV charger is not a plug-in job. It pulls a heavy load for hours at a time, so the rules are strict. Get them wrong and you can trip your power, overheat cables, or run into an insurance problem if there is ever a fire. Here is what the law asks for.
Every EV Charger Needs Its Own Circuit
Under the Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000), your charger must run on its own dedicated circuit straight from the switchboard. It cannot share with your powerpoints, oven, or anything else. This stops the circuit overloading and keeps the charge steady.
The Right Safety Switch for Your Charger
Your charger needs the correct safety switch, called an RCD. If the charger has built in DC fault protection, a Type A RCD is fine. If it does not, it needs a Type B, which is larger and costs more. James checks the charger you choose and fits the right one.
What Size EV Charger You Can Install in Queensland
The single-phase limit is not something your electrician picks. It comes from Queensland’s Service and Installation Rules, and every licensed sparky on the Coast has to work within it. If you need a faster charge than single-phase allows, the proper fix is a controlled load circuit or three-phase power, not a bigger charger on the same supply. James tells you what your meter box can take before you buy anything.
When Energex Needs to Be Told
Energex runs the power network on the Gold Coast. For a standard single-phase charger, you usually do not need to notify them. Go above the single-phase limit, or install three-phase, and the job has to be registered with Energex first. James sorts that paperwork for you.
What Affects the Cost of Your EV Charger Installation
No two homes are the same, so the price moves with the job. The main things that change it are:
Electrical work
$700ā$2,500
Straightforward home install
Charger unit
$700ā$1,500
Depending on brand & features
James gives you a fixed quote once he has looked at your setup. No surprise costs, and he will not push work you do not need. Plenty of EV owners on the Coast have been quoted silly money for a couple of hours’ work, so it pays to shop around and get the price in writing.
